Should I Surf? is a personal surf forecasting tool. This policy explains what data is collected, why, and how you can control it.

What we collect

• Email address — used to sign you in and to send surf alerts if you enable them.
• Surf spots — the names, locations, and notes you add about your breaks.
• Session logs — dates, ratings, and notes you record after surfing.
• Profile data — your skill level and equipment preferences, used to personalise forecasts.
• Conversation history — your exchanges with the forecast assistant, stored so you can pick up where you left off.

What we don't collect

• Your name (unless you include it in a message)
• Payment information — the app is currently free
• Location data from your device — you add spots manually
• Tracking cookies or analytics

How your data is used

Your data is used solely to provide the service: generating personalised surf forecasts, sending alert emails you've opted into, and building pattern recognition over your sessions and spots.

It is never sold, shared with third parties for marketing purposes, or used to train AI models.

Third-party services

The following categories of service providers receive limited data to operate the product:

• Database and authentication provider — stores your account, spots, sessions, and conversation history. Hosted in the EU.
• AI language model provider — your messages are processed to generate forecast responses. No personal data is retained by the provider beyond the scope of each request.
• Transactional email service — delivers alert emails and sign-in codes. Receives your email address for delivery only.
• Weather data providers — supply wave, wind, and tidal forecasts. No personal data is sent.
• Error monitoring service — captures application errors for debugging. Reports are anonymised and contain no message content.

Alert emails

Surf alert emails are strictly opt-in. You can turn them off at any time from within the app, or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any alert email. Unsubscribes take effect immediately.

We send at most one alert email per user per 7 days, regardless of how many spots or forecast windows are found.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, email hello@shouldi.surf — your data will be removed within 7 days.

This service is operated from Scotland and governed by UK GDPR.

Data retention

Your data is retained while your account is active. When an account is deleted, all associated data — spots, sessions, conversation history, and alert records — is permanently removed.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, users will be notified by email before the change takes effect.
